Default Need help from workout people V.pull up bar in basement

What's going to be the easiest way to get a pull-up bar or two installed in my basement? I have tons of room and the ceiling is open, so I have access to all of the wood joists. I was thinking of piecing something together at Home Depot or something, but didn't know if someone made a "kit" like that.

You want to leave at least a foot and a half between the bar, and the ceiling. You don't want to hit your head on the floor above, or a nail sticking out. You also want to use at the very least a 3" diameter pipe, 4" would be good. Bigger diameter is hard to do pull ups on so don't get a 1" or 2" bar. They sell ones that are similar to shit like the 'perfect pullup' but bolt onto joists. Personally I would get some flanges and build a bar out at least a foot from the wall, or down from the floor above.

You're going to want to bar 6' off the ground if you plan on doing ab exercises.

If you have a steel beam in your basement that's all you need. I don't have a basement where I'm staying now so I have a stupid $19 pullup bar in the doorway of the kitchen. I have a tower but the ceilings are too low to use it in the house as well.

I had searched. I guess I was looking more for opinion from personal experience. Thanks though.

I do, but it seems difficult to do pull ups on based on the shape.

This looks alright and reviews are good although Ive never used this exact one. I prefer the cambered ends and the protruding handles make for good bicep work. Its 48 inches wide so you should be able to figure out if its wide enough for you. Look on amazon bro there are a shit ton of different joist mount style bars.

You'll have to break your fingers in but it's no big deal.

They have bars like this too:

No. It's a condo that we rent, which is why I'm also trying to avoid mounting something to a wall in the basement.

How tall is the basement ceiling?

Another thing you could do, I just get a thick piece of rope and have it hang over a thick pipe or something that will hold you up. Then do your pullups that way. If you want you could probably go to the swingset department of Lowe's and find some handles or rings
