Default Having shifter problems. 1994 Mustang Gt Automatic

Ok, Here's The problem The shifter for My 1994 mustang Gt vert, is misaligned inside the car. The car is an automatic and the shifter is stock. When the car is in park it doesn't read park and vice versa with other shifts. The cable underneath the car is tight, I've adjusted it numerous times. I'm this close to say I don't care and ride it how it is but, having a tight shifter is big with me . Any suggestions or anyone want to take care of this small problem for me.

disconnect shifter cable, insure alignment to selected locations. If all ok, replace cable as suspected stretched. Basically what sn95_311 said!
